When D&D Meets Matel Electronics

If you are like me, and were born in the late sixties or seventies, you probably grew up with one or more of those fabulously simple Mattel hand held games that were nothing more than red blips on a screen (I'll spare everyone my curmudgeonly sounding argument about how we were so imaginative that even red blips could keep us entertained for hours back then while kids today blah, blah, blah). If you've never seen these before check this YouTube playlist of these games "in action". As you'll see there were versions for baseball, football, basketball, and a whole bunch of others. ANYWAY... somewhere around that time, Mattel and TSR (before they got bought out by WotC, before WotC got bought out by Hasbro) got together and must have thought that red blips were too much for the D&D community, and came up with a 2 player game featuring only four miniatures--a single treasure chest, one figure for each player and one for the puniest looking dragons, I've ever s...

Video - D&D PHB PSA

Another video series I stumbled on, "D&D PHB PSA", is a sometimes funny collection of skits relating to D&D. The general idea is that on each episode, a few people (iconic D&D character types) talk about issues personal to them. The first episode features Mialee, Jozan, Gimble, and Lidda in "confessional" style interviews. Note, some of the later episodes have a bit of NSFW humor. Creative Juices, the group that produces the series, currently have about 40+ episodes on-line, with each running around 15min each.

Video - Fear of Girls

Stumbled across a new game-related web series, Fear of Girls. I've only watched the first episode and was cringing and laughing the whole time. Right now there's only two episodes, but #3 seems to be on the way.

What If? Dragonlance Live Action Cast

Since even before the first hints of a Dragonlance movie surfaced, many people on the net played along with the popular what if scenario: "Who would you cast in a movie?" Here's a great video I recently came across where one person attempts to answer just that question. I really like the use of existing Dragonlance art along with several photos of each actor.

Gaming Humor: Hail to The Geek - Deaf Pedestrians

Not completely related to gaming, but listen closely to the second verse... UPDATE: Newsarama recently did an interview with Charlton Parker of The Deaf Pedestrians . Since Newsarama is primarily concerned with comics, there was no info on his D&D experience.

Recommendation: The Guild

I'm not a big video game player. Guitar Hero is about my speed, and too much of the appeal of that game for me is the plastic guitar-like controller... I dread the day Patty comes home to find me wearing the controller and serenading the cat with my extensive knowledge of Rick Springfield songs... "Don’t you think your friends are talking Alyson? They’re blaming it all on me I’m blaming it all on love" from Alyson but I digress... I've also never play online games, like WoW or Evercrack, but I recently stumbled across a this youtube channel called The Guild . It's supposedly about a group of eccentric online players and their adventures in the real world, from trying to meet IRL, to one player obsessed with another... it's all dark and dry humor... check it out. The only bad thing is the eps are not created with any frequency, and I have no idea what their schedule is for new shows.
